Musket Training for Color Guard

The Sons of Liberty Color Guard Brigade is offering an opportunity for members to complete the required training to safely discharge muskets at sanctioned events. To fire a musket during SAR Color Guard events, a member must have either a National Parks Service firearms safety certificate or an NRA firearms safety certification. On Thursday, October 15, 2026, FLSSAR Safety Officer Mark Johnson will conduct a musket safety and certification class for the first ten members who register. The cost of the training is $85 per participant. Upon successful completion, the certification will be registered with the Florida Society, allowing the member to participate in musket firing demonstrations at approved events in accordance with insurance requirements. The training will begin at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Chuluota Sportsman Club, located approximately 40 minutes from the hotel where the Board of Management (BOM) meeting will be held. The class is expected to be completed on Thursday; however, if additional time is needed, training will continue Friday morning and conclude in time for BOM activities. Participants are not required to own a musket. A musket will be available for those who need one for the training. All participants must provide and wear appropriate eye and ear protection. Completed certificates will be filed with the Florida Society, and certificates will be presented on Friday evening to those who successfully complete the course. We encourage all interested Color Guard members to take advantage of this opportunity and help expand our ability to conduct historically accurate musket demonstrations at SAR events throughout Florida.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Florida Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (LAFLSSAR), also known as the Auxiliary, is a nonprofit association of women dedicated to assisting, supporting, and advancing the objectives of the Florida Society of the Sons of the American Revolution: promoting patriotism, serving our communities, and educating and inspiring future generations.
